The four band member band are all from Yorkshire in England, and their genre of music being, Indie/Rock/Alternative.

My chosen song for my music video is 'Lights.' The reason why I have chosen this song is because I like the introduction of it.

I can't see the time,
but I know that we're deep into the night.
And it's not right espically when you've got all that time,
I can't feel my skin,
cause when I'm around you I feel so cold,
and this shrade is growing so old,
and my patience's is wearing thin.

It's far too late,
And I don't want to be the one to watch you escape,
I don't wanna see you going out the gate,
and i dont want you to forget my face or my name,
I dont wanna have to take it back or play this game again.

You lock me away in the darkest room,
to see if I can find your point of view.
And if it's true, I'd rather find you in the end and gloom.
And my bad luck usally lands me in a place I can't stand,
so I bury my head deep inside the sand,
and note to relate the time you've took.

It's far too late,
And I don't want to be the one to watch you escape,
I dont wanna see you going out the gate,
and I don't want you to forget my face or my name,
I don't wanna have to take it back or play this game again.

Don't let me catch you.
Wow, cause you could loose what your running away from,
as I want you to be the one that's safe,
you could choose between the situation,
or you could throw it away.
Hold me down untill my soul comes down,
and you could bring me round or so I found.

It's far too late,
And I don't want to be the one to watch you escape,
I dont wanna see you going out the gate,
and I don't want you to forget my face or my name,
I don't wanna have to take it back or take the blame again.

Mumford & Sons. Little Lion Man video analysis.

The video opens with a medium shot of two light bulbs hanging from the celling of what looks like a pub. When the music kicks in the lights shine bright and get to see the surroundings a bit more as the camera tracks backwards allowing us to see more of the scene. The shot then cuts to a close up of somebody playing the guitar which switches from this shot to other band members playing their instruments. A pan shot shot behind the band members cut with close up shots of them playing their instruments is almost mysterious in a way as we still haven't met the band members as a band, they have only been shot separately.

Suddenly its cuts of an extreme long shot of the band playing on a stage with lots of lights surrounding them. Still switch from extreme close ups of the band playing, the lead singer singing, it again cuts back to the band members from behind playing there instrument. As the chorus is sung by the band members the long shot of them from the front turns into a zoom as we get to see the band members sing altogether. It the quickly cuts to the guitar being strummed and the main singer singing before cutting back to the band playing there instruments extremely passionately.

As the words to the music kick in after a the music being played it takes you to a shot of the main singer singing in a tilt camera shot this could  because it relates to the emotion of the lyrics. Again the shots are constantly switch with different focus' different compositions from extreme close ups of instruments being played. The camera is never sat still in this part of the music video, even when the camera is focusing on one thing, like the instrument or a band member the shot is either slighting moving slowly from side to side or zooming in and zooming out.

This time as the chorus kicks in, the camera doesn't constantly focus on the lead singer singing it but the other band members singing. As the camera zooms into them performing on the stage it then changes from a shot of the band members behind, and it is zooming outwards making the band members be the focus of the big empty space in front of them. As the tempo of the music gets faster the quicker the shots get, quickly switching from between the usual main singer and instruments.

As the tempo of the music gets slower, so does the shot lengths. These shots are still of the same things but are for longer periods of time. One shot cuts to the lead singer high on top of the balcony of the theatre showing him to be dominant and powerful. As the music gets faster the shots do exactly the same. When the music comes to a quick stop it shows the lights turn off with the music then turn back on again when the music quickly kicks in.

When all the music has stopped being played and its just the band members singing there is a various of close up shots on the different band members to show this, and switched from the main lead singer and them altogether on the stage. The end finishes with a shot of the band members from behind with a   pan shot going upwards facing the ceiling then fades out to black.

The interesting thing about this music video is it has been shot in the same setting all the way throughout, it doesn't have a narrative, and it follows the same shots throughout, but as an audience we don't get board of this which I think is down to the wide variety camera shots, and angles.

Influences - Skin heads.

Skin heads, are another subculture, that orientated from working class youth's in London in the 1960's, which later lead to other countries. Skin heads were known for there closely cropped or shaven heads which were based on the elements of not politics or race.

From a fashion point of view, skin heads follow off from the Mod subculture, a soft touch of punk as well as hard-core influences. Skins heads are known for wearing polo, or button up shirts, from brands like Fred Perry and Ben Sherman. Collarless grandad shirts, V-neck jumpers, fitted blazers, bomber or demin jackets. Crombie style jackets, parka's or sheepskin over sized coats. Skinny jeans usually worn short from brads like Levi's, Lee or Wrangler. Hats such as Trilby hats, pork pie hats, flat caps, and a bowler hat, influenced by clockwork orange which were a little less popular. Most Skin heads wear boots, like work boots, Dr. Martins, but also known to wear, brogues and loafers.

Influences. The Mod Subculture.

Mod is a subculture starting from London in the 1950's gaining popular in the early 1960's. This culture typically was interested in riding scooters, record shopping and hanging around in coffee bars, listening to music. The term Mod steams from the word modernist but in the 1950's the term was used to described a modern Jazz musician or fan. From around the summer of 1966 the Mod culture was on a rapid decline, as the hippy culture was on the raise in the UK, this being because of the this subculture was being commercialised , and instead of the people creating and making there own kind of fashion and developing the subculture itself. As the different subcultures became popular, the different bands would become moulded to typically go with that culture in order for there music to live. For example The Who, who no longer considered themselves as mod's when that subculture became less popular.

The Fashion for Mod's were influenced by post-war Britain. As the teens and young adults started to gain disposable income, it would be spent on clothes which would of been from boutique shops opening in London. There style was extremely creative, as they would customise existing styles with symbol's and artefacts such as the Union Jack, and the Royal Air force, putting them on there jacket in a pop art kind of way. the fashion adapted from modern Italian and french fashion, which were found in rural small towns. Examples of clothes that these Mod's would wear are, thin ties, button down collar shirts, crew neck or V-neck jumpers, pointed leather shoes, Chelsea/Beatle boots, tassel loafers, Clarks desert boots, and bowling shoes. The scootering interest lead to military parker jackets, to protect there expensive suits from the rain or mud, whilst driving round.  Female mod's were presented with short haircuts, male clothes and little makeup, including light foundation, brown eye shadow, white or pale lipstick, and false eyelashes.

Influences - This is England.

This is England, started off as a film, and was released in 2006. The story of the film follows twelve year old Shaun in the summer of 1983 and the new friends he meets. A fight one day after school lead him to meet Woody, and he introduced his skinhead gang. This is the start of Shaun's new lease of life which includes going to parties, getting drunk, getting involved with girls.

The reason why I have linked this with my music video is because this era is a link to Indie rock, and the conventions of it. You may be able to see some similarities from this style to the things band members in indie rock bands wear. Take for example the skinny/straight leg jeans and the checked shirt this fashion from this era has influenced the music Indie rock genre. There fashion on the picture above is more of a statement, saying to people they are different, linking to the original term of Indie, also meaning individual. But also this fashion is telling everyone that they are part of a particular group.

The Target audience links in the way that these people want to be individual's, but also links with the classes being aimed at working to middle class.

My Chemical Romance - Na Na Na Music Video Analysis.

After analysing Ed Sheeran's The A Team, I thought I'd now analyse My Chemical Romance Na Na Na video. I've chosen to analyse this music video as it's a different genre to Ed Sheeran's, The A Team video. My Chemical Romance is a well known alternate rock band and have won a various amount of awards. Also this video has had a lot more money spent on it whereas Ed Sheeran's created a low budget video. The other difference is My Chemical Romance is a recognised rock band which is known to be legendary to the rock world.

My Chemical Romance started out in 2001. Gerard Way created the band, and his influence was the tragic 9/11 attack on which he witnessed resulted him to creating this band to express his feelings about the event. The members include Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mickey Way, Frank Lero. Past members were, Matt Pelissier and Bob Bryar.

The very first shot is a long shot of a strange looking man, with the settings look as if he's in the wilderness. This questions the viewer into thinking why is there a strange man, wearing spotty leggings, a helmet, and roller skates in the middle of nowhere. There is then a cut to an extreme close up of a man talking down an old fashioned microphone. We then see a quick flash of three shots of the lead singer (Gerard Way) wearing a motorbike style outfit. A series of close up / extreme close up shots are presented showing the band members getting ready into some superhero costumes, the band members getting ready, and the close up's of the weapons indicate they are getting ready for a battle.

As the music starts to kick in, the band members leave the typical american run down cafe. And the shot reverse shot revels the band members significant brand identity logo, of a spider with a with a lightning strike down it's back, and big fangs at the front, We link spiders with fear, as a lot of people are afraid of spiders, this is typically of a Rock band to do as they want the audience to believe they are strong, dominant and not afraid of anything. This spider logo is the brand identity for the whole of this album, being shown throughout a number of different ways, without the audience even realising.

Above is another example of where the brand logo has been placed. So this logo we see everywhere, to signify the band and its expectations of that band. The screen transition changes to a three shot comic book feel to link with the narrative of the superhero theme. This quick transition ends within a couple  of seconds, all of the picture of the car racing off, apart from one quick shot is of a cat like costume, which could be the enemy or part of the band. Later on we come to realise that this again is part of the band member. The transition finishes with an explosion indicating something is about to happen.  The next couple of seconds includes the quick shots of again the band getting ready to battle.

A quick shot of Gerard Way and a tall bold man with him grasping Geared in what looks like an unpleasant way as his facial expressions show this. Finally we have met the enemy to our narrative. That shot leads to the next couple of shots of the enemy man getting into a black car, with a face like symbol on the car. Immediately as an audience we recognise the difference from the good guys (the band) and the bad guys, the man in black. We then see the other members of the bad side, with white masks, riding white motorbikes. The contrast between the white and black colours for that team signify who his the dominant role out of that team.

As the words in the song are swearing they are covered with a bleeping sound so people are not offended by these words. It is typical of a rock genre band to swear in there lyrics as it shows they are typically rebellious. In the video this has been covered with a fussy television screen which have the white words of bli in a black circle.

The battle begins between the two teams, starting with them shooting each other with laser guns from there car
s. Again all extremely fasted pasted, with a different range of camera shots used. The next couple of shots include the band members singing together and the band members fighting against the bad guys. As Gerard way takes down three of the bad guys the long shot changes into a quick flash of the spider iconic symbol, almost declaring that they have been defeated. As the Band members begin to slowly defeat the bad team, we see the bad team get fewer and fewer and the main guy getting angrier, as there is a tracking shot of him ripping down a poster, and getting violent towards his team members, almost encouraging them to do better.

As the battle continues the band members come to a vending machine which provides laser guns and batterys for the guns, this is shown through extreme close up's. The long shot revels that the machine has the same symbol which was on the car, resulting it to being the bad guy's gun from the vending machine.

As the music starts to slow down, so does the paste of the shots, and it becomes night time and we see the band members preparing for what looks like dinner as they are sat around the fire. The unforced mid shot displays one of the bad guys to the members which quickly cuts to the main leader of the bad team miming the lyric's of "Everyone wants to change the world" which switched between focused and unfocused, showing his mental state of anger and frustration.

We see a series of shots of the two teams getting out of there cars to confront one another, this is taken though a long process until actually coming face to face, this keeps the viewer intrigued. The bad guys seem to become ganging up on the younger most vulnerable team member of the good side, but they quickly get defeated. As the band members save the boy and take off there mask, there hero names appear, in a retro but slightly transparent font.

Finally we see both teams face to face, ready to declare the winner. When the little boy holds up the signal. The screen the goes blank and we see the band members on the floor injured. The close up shot shows Gerard's eyes opening that revels the bad guys have captures the boy, and it ends with the main bad guy saying "Keep running" this is what the audience didn't want to happen which makes it a good cliffhanger to end with.

Goodwin's Theory.

1) Music Video's demonstrate genre characteristics. (For example, the band Area, being an Indie band, we are likely to see them playing, in a Pub, or a small venue.)

2) There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. (For the music video, I am creating will have a link with the lyrics to what you will see in the music video.)

3) There is a relationship between the music and the visuals. (In the music video I will create, I will add in the instruments that are included in the band.)

4) The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work. (Though out the music video I will include a visual style, of a sterotypical indie band.)

5) There is frequently referance to notion of looking and particualy, voyeuristic treatment of the female body.  (This will not be included in my music video as this doesn't link with the genre of the band.)

6) There is often intertexual reference. (There is usually references to other T.V programmes, films, or other music video's. Similarly, I have taken inspiration from Mark Ronson and The Business International)

Lucozade Energy Advert.

The Lucozade energy advert I saw only a couple of days ago. I really liked the idea of band singing and preforming whilst in action, and started to give me ideas about my own video. I like how the camera follows and focus on the band members, but I would find it hard to try this and keep the camera still to make it a good shot. I like how the setting looks rough, with council houses and blocks of flats, this depressing looking background almost contrast the fact that there is an upbeat, excited band playing in the streets whilst on skateboards, bikes, go-carts etc. The idea that the band starts off with the one guitarist, then from different directions the band come together on there different forms of transport. At the end there is a close-up on the main singer's arm, which we see is a signed cast. This is comical in a way as it shows that skateboarding whilst singing is not a safe thing to do as there concentrating on two things at once, and also shows he is dangerous fearless. I defiantly want to try and include some sort of transport in my video.

The advert starts with a medium shot of a band member looking down at his guitar, the background is unforced on a street with different coloured houses. Which indicates this is a sea side town. The shot then cuts to an extreme long shot of the band member playing his guitar whilst on a skateboard, going down a hill. As the tracking shot is in front of the band member and moves backwards to show the band member moving forward, down the hill, we see two other band members enter the shot coming from the left and right side of the clip.

A clean cut then shows an over the shoulder shot of the band member at the front with the guitar on the skateboard and behind him is an other band member on a go-cart also playing a guitar. The shot then moves to a long shot of another band member entering the scene, from a side street leading onto the main road in which the band are on going down the hill. On the right side of the screen we see an extreme close up of the guitar member who is at the front of the band, of him playing his guitar. We notice the brightly coloured yellow and orange Lucozade bottle in the pocket of the main guitarist.

A long shot from the side of the drums and player playing the drums, which looks like he is almost on a cart with three wheels, carrying him and the set of drums he is playing. The shot then cuts to a front view shot and the main signer is now at the front of the band, he is also on a skateboard. In his right hand is a microphone in which he starts singing down, and his other arm has a signed cast. the camera then cuts to a behind shot of the members going down the hill, with other people behind on bikes and skateboards, almost as if they are following the band. A quick shot then is aimed and the member who is playing the drums and we see his face concentrate on the music he is playing.

The shot then returns to the main singer who we see skate past the camera and behind him in the background is an advertisement on the side of the house, advertising Lucozade. The camera then focus's on the guitar player sat in the go-cart and is focused on his face with a unfocused band member in the background.

A various different camera angles and shots are used for the next few seconds focusing on the band members as they play, whilst going down the hill. The camera then cuts again to the main singer, starting with an extreme close up of his face, to an extreme long shot of the band members on the hill, performing and going down the hill. and we see the setting of the houses and flats. Again a various different quick shots, are shown of the band members, one shot being of a member, who is on a cart / bike with speakers, looses balance and falls off, out of the left hand side of the shot.

As the band members come to the end of the hill. There are a mix of different shots used from different highs to show the band members ending up with a crowd of people surrounding them as they come to the end of the hill. The main singer runs off his skate board and climbs up onto a building, the medium low angle shot shows his dominance as he holds his bottle of Lucozade high in the air.

The concept of the band members on the bike's, skateboards is, differently something I want to consider in my music video. I feel this music video captures the indie/rock stereotype, which is again something I hope to perceive in my music video. The various of different shot, angles, movement, heights and speed, has given me an idea for my own music video.

Below the advert is a short article on the return of the Lucozade adverts.

Lucozade Energy is to return to TV advertising after an absence of six years with a new commercial directed by skateboarding legend and documentary film director Stacy Peralta.
The campaign, Lucozade's first since Ogilvy & Mather's quirky retro-feel ads of 2004, introduces the new brand positioning of "Do More".
Lucozade's
In each case a trail of orange Lucozade Energy appears to power each sportsman. The campaign has been made by M&C Saatchi.
Peralta, who filmed the ad in South Africa, found fame as a skateboarder in the 1970s and 1980s alongside Tony Hawk. He later turned to film-making with documentaries such as Dogtown and Z-Boys and Riding Giants.
Lucozade Energy used Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft in an ad campaign in 2001. While back in 1985 the brand famously used decathlete Daley Thompson in a commercial set to Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera.

The Wombat's - Moving To New York. Animation music video.

We was given a task to draw the music video, for a band and song we like. We was asked to work in pairs, and my partner was Sonal, as we both have similar music taste. We both generally like Indie/Rock, so we came to the agreement that we would pick this as our music genre  for the animated video.

We achieved our music video by, having the original Wombats - Moving To New York music video up on the computer, and as the video play's we would pause the music video and then draw that particular shot. It was a long process but I think the quality of it works well.

Sonal was given the task to draw, and I coloured. We created our music video story board by using YouTube to find the music video and each shot we would stop and draw. It took a long time to colour so Sonal took up the job to also colour. This is noticeable that two people have coloured as my colourings more harder, and block colours whereas Sonal's is more, lighter. I feel like I've enhanced my own drawing though the colouring, which then could get confusing for the viewer as the same character may really look like a different character.

In order to get the drawings off the story board and onto the computer, i simply took pictures of the drawings then up loaded them onto the computer then added the photo's to imovie.

Ed Sheeran - The A Team. Analysis.

Ed Sheeran is a British song writer from Suffolk. His contribution to his music includes singing and playing the guitar. The genre of his music is folk, acoustic, and indie, this talented young man's music has only become a break though. The A-Team tells a story of a twenty year old girl who is homeless, and addicted to drugs. The reason why I've chosen this music video to evaluate is because, I enjoy listening to Sheeran's music and the video was created on an extremely low budget, making it similar to the budget of the film I will be creating, so I thought this video could inspire somehow.
The first thing we hear is the sound of birds whilsting, this is shown with a black screen that filters out into a close up shot of a young girl. The shot is in black and white and goes from unfocused to focused. The unfocused shot attracts the viewer as they try to concentrate on the girl crying (person 2.) The viewer then wants to know whats happened.

A clean cut of an extreme close up of a girl (person 1) who looks dead, the audience then puts two and two together and realise why person 2 was crying. The extreme close up of person 1 zooms out and at the same time unfocus'. Next is a black screen which cuts to long shot of person 1 laying on a bench. The audience now know they will find out the story to why person 1 has died.

An acoustic guitar then kicks in and the music starts to play. We then see mid shots of person 1 and the audience starts to notice person 1 looking unhealthy and unhygienic. The audience see a series of shots that introduces the main character, for example, the low angle of person 1 represents dominance but as we can see this is not the case with person 1. It could be seen as person 1 is the only person she has in her life, so its almost feels like its a relief in the way that she doesn't have to look after anyone else and is free.

We see a shot of just person 1's legs, boots and her quilt which has been thrown over her shoulder. This shot created the image that we are following this girls life, and shows how she doesn't fit in with her surroundings and the community.

Lots of different shots are shown with person 1 walking around a city, day dreaming, and selling the Big Issue. A shot of her standing near a road which we only see the back of her, is fast forward, so we see person 1 is standing in the same place, in the same position with all the traffic rushing past her. This shot signifies her life going in slow motion, whilst everyone eles' is quick and upbeat. Again another shot like this is shown of her sat on the floor in the city, holding a cup, begging.

A close up is show when person 1 is crying, this shows her emotions and at this point we feel sorry for her.

A series of shots are shown of person 1 putting on make-up, and dressing up. The long shot after, shows her being stood on the road waiting to be picked up and the audience can guess she's going into prostitution. A various of shots are shown suggesting she is having sex. We see a close up of her taking money from his pocket which it then becomes sure that it's prostitution. A mid shot of her and the man are in bed, turns into a focused close up of her and we see the upset, guilty, disgusted, shocked emotions on her face. An extreme close up of hands are shown and the money changes into a pack of drugs. It now makes sense to make the audience about what lifestyle this young girl is living. Several quick and close up shots are used when we see her setting up and taking the drugs. This is to give tension and suspense and intrigues the reader.

As the music draws to an end we see a mid shot of person 1 laying back on the bed and we assume she dies as the next shot is of the sky and a transparent picture of her in the background. Thoughout the whole video, most of the shots are hand held/unsteady. This signifies her unsteady, depressed, life.

The Bike Song - Mark Ronson and the Business International.

This music video concentrates on three young men singing about how they believe push bikes are a better, cooler form of transport. The main singer, Mark Ronson wheres an all in one, ASBO, community service outfit. He's seen as the sort of bad boy, ring leader, whilst the two other boy's look like the the rest of the gang.  This is something I would like to portray .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           After watching this music video on Kerrang! It reminds of the Lucazade advert. I like how they are on old style bikes. This has defiantly inspired me with my work, and I'll defiantly try something like this. Again I think it will be quite hard to film but it's a challenge and i think it's really effective and not costly.
