Micheal Gondry.

Micheal Gondry born on 8th May 1963 is a msic video, TV advert, and film director. His family influenced him into pop music and when at his school in fance, he started a band called Oui-Oui. They released two albums and thats when Gondry found his talent of directing as he directed the music videos for his band. One of Oui-Oui's video's was shown on MTV, this is where Bjork saw the video and became interested.

In 2001 Gondry made his first feature film with human nature, which wasn't so popular, the next film he made was slightly more popular, receiving positive reviews, this was Eternal Sunshine of spotless mind, which was released in 2004, and become one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. This film is known to reflect Gondry's experimentation with techniques within his music video's.

This lead Gondry onto directing five more of Bjork's music video's along with lots of other artist around the world. Gondry also made adverts for GAP, Smimoff, Air France, Nike, Coca Cola, Addias, Polaroid, and Levi. In 2001 Gondry directed his first feature movie, Human Nature, in which Spike Jonze suggested the studio to direct the movie. In 2004 Gondry received his first Oscar award for directing the film Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Lastly, Gondry came up with the idea of placing several cameras around someone and taking a picture at the same time, this idea is created in Bjork's Army of me, music video.

                                        GAP advert.

This Advert shows Gondy's videography talent, in how he uses multiples of the same person which is mirrored giving this effect. I think this is an extremely intelligent idea and could be made simple to film.
The music fit's perfect to the point of the advert, as Gap are introducing there winter range. The music changes from a typical calm Christmas song to Vanilla Ice's, Ice Ice baby. The contract of these two different genre's of music work well with each other.

Jonze's education begin at Walt Whitman School. During his time at school Jonze would go to the Bathesda community store, and the owner at that time, Mike Henderson gave him the nickname Spike Jonze in reference to Spike Jonze whom was a musician and band leader. Interested in BMX free styling himself was the kick start of his career. In 1987 as an editor, writer and photographer for all different BMX & skateboarding magazines. In 1991 Jonze co-funded Sassy's brother mag 'Dirt' then in 1997 he signed a development and production deal with propaganda films for features and TV projects. A supporting role in the "Three Kings" lead to his marriage with Francis Ford Coppola in 1999, as her mother, Sofia Coppola was the film maker, this created alot of attention in the press. The Couple then divorced in 2003 because of hostile differences.

Even the famous MTV's Jackass, & Jackass The Movie, Jonze was the producer and co-creator. In 2006 Jonze was nominated by Directors Guild of America for outstanding achievement in commericals for 2005. The work in which he was nominated for was Hello Tomorrow for Adidas, Lamp for Ikea and and Pardon our dust for Gap. The TV and films Jonze has appeared are Pig!, Mi Vida Loca, Three Kings and The Game. In the days when Jonze, was closely linked with skate boarding, he co-directed the Girls Skateboard film, Yeah Right! and as the credits appear at the end, it shows Spike Jonze preforming a nollie heelflip in loafers. From 2007 Jonze become the creative director at VBS.tv which is an online television network which is supplied by Vice and funded by MTV. In 2009 Jonze directed the film Where The Wild Things Are. The film is based on a children's book and resulting in a various amount of positive reviews and appeared in many film critics, top 10 films of the year. In 2010 Jonze directed the film Suburbs. Inspired by Arcade Fire's album Suburbs. Jonze has directed loads of music videos, and worked with some of the most sucessful music artist in the industry at the time, here's a list of some of the artist and song's : Weezer - Island in the sun, undone-The sweater song, Holly Buddy, R.E.M - Crush With Eyeliner, Electrolite, Fatboy Slim - Prise You, Beastie Boys - Time for Livin', Kanye West - Flashing Lights, Arcade Fire - The Suburbs. One of Jonze popular adverts he directed is the Lamp for IKEA.

                                     Fatboy Slim - Prise you

Richard Koufey close friends of Jonze and leader of a dance troop, put together Fatboy's slim - Prise you music video. Jonze recorded dancing in public to the song via a boom box. Fatboy slim loved the idea, so jonze then filmed the dance troop outside West wood California movie theatre. The music video was a great success receiving awards and promoting the dance troop into preforming at the MTV music awards. The awards the film received were best direction, breakthrough and best choreography. Personally I feel the success of the film is through Jonze's simple yet amazingly creative idea.

                                          IKEA - Lamp.
The advert 'Lamp' was released in 2002 in America to promote Ikea products. The idea of the advert is the lamp is abanded by it's owner. The advert starts with the owner unplugging the lamp then carrying it over her shoulder almost like a child. She then puts the lamp down next to the bin, and we see from the Lamps point of view inside the house in which the Lamp used to live, and that the Lamp has been replaced with a new Ikea Lamp. Once again Jonze created a success as there was a eight percent sale increase when this advert was broadcasted.

Weezer - Island In The Sun.
This music video consist of the band playing with a different variety of wild animals, which also looks like it's filmed in the wild, where in fact it's filmed just outside Los Angeles. This was the second version of the music video and it is proved to be watched more than the first.

Target Audience - Indie / Rock Genre.

Indie/Rock is a form of music genre that started in the USA, steaming from a form of Rock genre, which came about in England around the 1980's. Indie/Rock is known to be rooted from the genre of American Underground alternative rock. The 1990's was a big change for the alternative rock as bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden became popular and mainstream within the US and bands like blur and Oasis again was becoming more mainstream for the UK.

The title of Indie/Rock, takes it's name from the word Independent, meaning not influenced or controlled by others in matter of opinion. The bands which are labelled Indie/Rock, will show they're unique and individual by dressing in different styles and portraying a certain look in order for them to be and look different from the norm.

This form of music is free to explore different emotions, music, and lyrical subjects that doesn't appeal to a mainstream audience. Indie/Rock is a completely diverse with different sub-genre's that include, Indie Pop, Jangle Pop, Grunge along with lots of others.
Indie Rock Genre artist include - Arcade Fire
                                                  - Blur
                                                  - The Charlatons
                                                  - Editors
                                                  - Feeder
                                                  - Hard-Fi
                                                  - Just Jack
                                                  - the Killers
                                                  - The Libertines
                                                  - The Maccabees
                                                  - Noah and the Whale
                                                  - Ocean Colour Scene
                                                  - The Pigeon Detectives
                                                  - R.E.M
                                                  - The Smiths
                                                  - Two Door Cinema Club
                                                  - The Vaccines
                                                  - Weezer
                                                  - the Zutons.

The reason why I have chosen to explore the Indie / Rock Genre is because the target audience is aimed at the same age as me, therefore it will be easier to relate my band members with people I know, also this genre's music video's are usually low budget and often shot in, public places such as public parks, city streets, pub's. These are places in which I will be able to film with it being a problem. If i chose the genre R&B for example the conventions for that music video would be at either in the rough streets of America, contrasting against the life of luxury, with big manor houses, and expensive sports car's, which I don't have access too. The genre of Indie / Rock just makes sense to do as it's the music genre I like to listen to, the target audience relates to me and also there music video are low budget and are usually at settings which I can get access too.

Music Genre's.

Alternative Rock.

The genre became known in the 1980's and became widely popular in the 1990's. Around this time alternative rock was an underground phenomena. Like most genre's only the occasional song will become a hit. The name came about  from being a sub - genre of rock. Unlike hard rock, alternative rock is alot more soft sounding and the lyric's do not seem as harsh. As times has changed, so has the genre, opening up to more of a punk rock edge to it. Bands that are stamped with the Alternative Rock genre are Oasis, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Nickle Back and Good Charlotte.

Jazz.

Jazz is a form of music that came about in America in the 1900's. It took a while for the public to gain a likeness for this genre but from it's original cultural origins, but also the fact that jazz music seemed to loose morals. Jazz gained a wider audience when white orchestral music helped adapt it. This type of music is something most people can releate to. Artist such as Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Tony Bennett, and Louis Armstrong.

Pop.

The word pop comes from the term of popular music. Pop music is a mix up of genre's usually combinding with rock 'n' roll music but suits to fit a wide audience. Some people would argue the pop genre oriantated from Britain the 1950's. This genre has been a massive success in the U.K and the U.S, and has made artist globally known. Artist in the pop genre include, Lady Ga Ga, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, and Madaona.
